Who Are We?

SPENSER'S MYSTERY BOOKSHOP opened its doors on April 1, 1983, the first mystery bookshop in Boston and one of the first in the country. The store was located in Boston's historic Back Bay neighborhood where Robert B. Parker's private eye Spenser lives and works, it was founded by Andrew Thurnauer, who ran it alone until 1994 when Kathy Phillips joined him. Since early 2004, when the shop closed, Kathy has been continuing in the business as SPENSER'S MYSTERY BOOKS. In addition to practicing law, Kathy writes mystery criticism, which can be read in The Drood Review, in Mystery Scene Magazine and in anthologies of mystery criticism edited by Kathy Klein and Ed Gorman. In the 1980s, while practicing law, Kathy sold first editions through catalogues and book shows as "Time and Again Books."

SPENSER'S stocks thousands of different titles, both current and out-of-print, including a broad selection of new and used books in hardcover, collector's editions or inexpensive reading copies. The website catalogue lists only a selection of first editions. Please feel free to contact us if you are searching for something that you don't see listed.
